A little trip

So this is what happens when you post your blog address on your Christmas cards. You stop blogging. Completely. Sorry. So Christmas was great, we got everything we wanted ;) , spent great time with family and went skiing. Someday I will post it all here for you, or really for my kids...because this is my modern day scrapbook and I wouldn't want them to think we did not have Christmas in 2010!

But.... I am moving on to what I can remember. A trip that Scott and I took last week. Together. Just the 2 of us. We went somewhere where you can see these everywhere you look...
That's right STARS! We went to Texas. Austin and San Antonio to be exact. We had a great time. How did we get to go with 3 children who cannot yet care for themselves? With the help of these great people...

Scott's mom watched the kids while we were gone and his dad flew in for a few days after we returned back home. She did great with the kids and they love their grandparents sooooo much. Thank you Bill and Lynne for caring so well for my kids and always catering to their baking and sewing needs! Grandma makes homemade applesauce, blueberry and maple coffee cakes and sews up a storm with fleece. They love all that about her.

The kids had a snow day while we were gone. Too bad for Grandma. While we enjoyed super warm temps the first day. About 63 degrees. Then it got cold and windy for TX and that was a disappointment, but we were well aware it was warmer than STL.

In Austin we stayed at the Hyatt on Lady Bird/town lake and could easily get on the biking/running path from our hotel. This was right up my alley. A nice wide path with water visible on both sides with lots of people out and about. Plus 63 degrees. I had no reason not to run or bike and I did both. We rented bikes and that turned out to be fun. Scott went fishing while I went running and we essentially spent all of the first day outdoors. Austin is a great city. Fun and vibrant. College town (UT) and capitol of TX.

view from our hotel. We were right next to the congress Ave. bridge which is where the local bat colony hangs out! Great--we went down one night and just the sound of them was enough for me to want to turn around and head straight outta there!

Austin also has great food. We had several recommendations and they did not disappoint. After we checked out of our hotel we went to the capitol and then headed to San Antonio.

This is our "self-portrait" on our hotel balcony just before heading out. It was windy!
We stayed in downtown San Antonio on the Riverwalk for our remaining 2 days. It was fun. Sort of slow in the off season I would say, but we still found things to do. We did the boat tour on the river, went to the Mexican market, visited the Alamo and ate more yummy food. We also had the pleasure of meeting up with some old friends that used to live in STL for an afternoon. It was great to catch up with them.

On our last night there we ate on the Riverwalk. It was about 45 degrees but we decided to brave it and eat outside. They provided these mexican shawl type wearable blankets. I am pretty sure they are the mexican version of the SNUGGIE, but I could not resist. I put on 2!
After checking out of our San Antonio hotel we drove west to see the Texas Rolling hills. It was nice to see the countryside, but St. Louis is still prettier. Then one more mexican restaurant and we had to get on the plane! We will be back with the kids another time. Very fun!
